With a contract volume of approximately 7.1 billion Euro, Herkules is the largest and one of the most complex and extensive PPP projects in Europe. Following more than five years of negotiations with 7 competitors and, finally, with two bidders, the contract awarding process could be brought to a successful conclusion under the leadership of Colonel Gunter Zirfaß (IT Office of the Bundeswehr).

Berlin, December 28, 2006 - On December 28, 2006 the Bundeswehr (German Armed Forces) awarded a contract for the modernization and operation of its non-military information and communications technology (project Herkules) to a consortium formed by Siemens Business Services (SBS) and IBM. Herkules is one of the largest public sector contracts to be awarded in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany. From the very beginning Beiten Burkhardt has been advising and acting on behalf of the Bundeswehr in this contract award procedure.
